It was alright I guess, staff was nice. My roommate was loud and obnoxious and I did have increased thoughts of suicide but so far after discharge things have been going alright I guess.

If you are looking for info before you check In, I hope this helps RE: opiate/opiod detox.

The staff are not proactive. Today Christmas Day we have a blizzard and when my husband requested an emergency supply due to inclement on Christmas Eve was told “too bad”. Now we are stuck at the house in the hills considering whether to risk our lives for 100 milligrams. This is how programs fail as people will consider leaving the country and getting a few months supply in the winters.

Group meetings at 10am, 1pm, 3:30pm, 7pm & 9pm; mandatory. The first day they cut you some slack, after that they hound you to go. You can watch tv in the kitchen or group room, they have channels & a DVD player with lots of movies.

Kitchen opens at 7am, where you can get a variety of juices, sugar free soda, milk, coffee, tea, crackers, Graham crackers, bread, jelly, NO PEANUT BUTTER, apples, bananas, oranges, cereal, etc. Breakfast is at 7:30am, lunch at 11:30am, dinner at 4:30pm, & a snack at 7:30pm. Kitchen closes at 10pm, but the night crew is nice enough to make a small cart of snacks & drinks available in the hallway overnight. The prepared food was surprisingly tasty (but also, Im not very picky).

BEWARE: God help you if you need a medication that they don't normally offer. There is only 1 doctor at a time who is swamped with requests. Any request that is not part of their routine will take FOREVER to be addressed.

As far as being physically uncomfortable, they offer you a pill for everything. Nausea, muscle relaxers, anxiety, sleep, vitamins, etc. Oh yeah, & NO SMOKING. They will give you a nicotine patch though every day.

Only bring with you: clothes & reading material. They won't allow anything else. No toiletries, nothing with strings or belts, no tight clothes, no electronics of any kind, no makeup, etc. They will provide you with toiletries like: a comb, a toothbrush, toothpaste, anti-perspirant, a bottle of combo shampoo/body wash, & a bottle of lotion. That's it. No conditioner. I was allowed to have two elastic hairties (I had long hair) & the brush I brought.

You have to call every 4 hours to keep & maintain your place on the admission list, as they are usually full up with no beds available, esp for women. Don't know if there are more beds for men / fewer men calling, but if you are a guy, you probably only have to wait a day. If you are female, more like 1.5-2 days before getting in.

Rooms have 3 beds each with a private bathroom. Beds are surrounded by curtains for privacy, & you have a small dresser for your stuff.

Rude staff that appears to not like their jobs. facility looks like it belongs in a horror movie. Patients not monitored properly.

My daughter is in the Psych word, The staff are very friendly, they have lots of games I just wish the social worker and other clinician would return my phone call.

Once they schedule you to come in for admission, they will tell you (for example) to be there for 8am & to NOT BE LATE. Show up, let them know you're there. Wait about 15 mins, then fill out a bunch of papers. You won't actually be brought upstairs (for admission) until 9am.

Overall: The staff is nice & they seem to genuinely want you to succeed. They push comfort meds on you as much as possible to try to make it easier on you. First 2 days are tough, but you can do it. Hope this helped!

There is a free phone there for use but it is turned off during group times, & there's a limit of 10 mins.

When you go up for actual admission, they ask 30 mins of questions & forms, they RIGOROUSLY search your possessions (don't even try to sneak any contraband in), & what you CAN bring they put into a big laundry basket, & what you cannot bring in they catalog, make you sign for, & lock up. They catalog what you bring in as well. They also have you strip down & visually search your body as well. They are nice /sensitive /gentle /apologetic about it. Also, any male nurses/doctors are asked to leave during that time. They then take your vitals & pee test you.

The first 24 hours (the "assessment period"), they give you small doses (only as high as 5mg) of methadone every 4-6 hours for a maximum of 30mg in a 24 hour period. Every time you go get your dose, they evaluate how sick you are, & at the end of the 24 hours they review everything & decide where to start you off at on Day 2. WORD TO THE WISE: There are almost no clocks in there. No clock in your room, only a clock in the kitchen, nurses' station, & group room. You are responsible for knowing what time it is & what time you are supposed to have your meds. I didn't know this, so my 24 hour period got knocked off schedule, which screwed things up for me & made things harder. Total, you will be there between 5 - 7 days.
